Zohore agrees extension with Cardiff

-

KENNETH Zohore has handed Cardiff City a huge end of season boost after agreeing a new Bluebirds deal.

The Danish striker – Cardiff’s top scorer with 11 goals this term – has penned an extension to his contract that will see him commit to South Wales until 2020.

Zohore had been on the brink of being moved on in the winter just five months after turning his loan stay from Belgium outfit KV Kortijk into a permanent deal last summer.

But he responded to the challenge laid down to him by boss Neil Warnock and has become the club’s firstchoice frontman, with the veteran manager ripping up plans to bring in a new striker in the January window.

His form had at one stage led to suggestions Cardiff could cash-in on the 23-year-old, only for Warnock to rule out selling the highly-rated prospect.

And the Yorkshireman revealed he had opened talks over a fresh contract for the former FC Copenhagen starlet ahead of Fridat night’s clash with Newcastle.

Now the new deal has been confirmed after Cardiff made the news official shortly before kick-off with the already promoted Toon.

It is a significant fillip for Cardiff with Warnock adamant he is ready to build a promotion-challenging squad for next season.

The 68-year-old has admitted he has also had discussions with other key members of his side over new deals with some to be concluded shortly.

A new deal for wideman Junior Hoilett – who arrived on a shortterm contract as a free agent in October – is also on the cards as Warnock attempts to get business done early ahead of the new campaign.
