GYLFI: I’M FOCUSED ON SWANS

- Andrew Gwilym Football writer andrew.gwilym@walesonline.co.uk

SWANS hero Gylfi Sigurdsson has vowed to shut out mounting speculation over his future and stay 100 per cent focused on helping the club beat the Premier League drop.

The 27-year-old was the Swans’ hero yet again at Old Trafford on Sunday, producing a stunning late free-kick to earn Paul Clement’s side a 1-1 draw at the Theatre of Dreams and keep them hot on the heels of relegation rivals Hull with three games of the season remaining.

It was Sigurdsson’s ninth goal of the season and that figure adds to a dozen assists, emphasising just how important the Icelandic international is to Swansea’s survival bid.

Given Swansea’s perilous predicament, the sharks are said to be circling, with Everton and West Ham among those being touted as potential summer destinations for Sigurdsson.

But the player himself is unfazed by such speculation and is only interested in ensuring Swansea remain a top-flight club in a fight he expects to go to the final day of the season.

“It’s just a part of our job, if you’re doing well these things happen,” he said.

“But I’m completely focused on helping Swansea stay in the Premier League because I don’t want to get relegated.

“We’re a point closer now to hope. It doesn’t give Hull too much breathing space and they can’t afford to slip up too many times now.

“The performance deserved at least a point and it was important for us not to be going away with nothing.

“We’re getting to the end of the season where teams are fighting for their lives and they are going to get results.

“We’re focusing on ourselves and putting the pressure on them so we don’t give them any chances to escape.

“I think it is going to go all the way to the last game.

“Hull probably didn’t expect us to get anything from the game today. It’s good for us to cancel out the point they got.

“I know they play first again next week but the most important thing is to concentrate on ourselves, make sure we perform and make it hard for them.

“They are in a better position than we are and it’s down to them to stay in the league or for us to catch them.”
