Cardiff Met sheds senior positions in restructuring

-

A number of senior personnel at Cardiff Metropolitan University have lost their jobs as part of a management restructuring.

The affected staff, as part of an ongoing process, include two deans of school, as the university has confirmed plans to co-locate sport and health sciences within its Cyncoed campus.

A small number of other senior staff have also lost their jobs.

The university, under its vice-chancellor Cara Aitchison, will soon appoint a new deputy vice-chancellor.

The university said a “new and ambitious” five-year plan was recently agreed by its board of governors, following extensive discussions with staff, students and stakeholders.

Plans include the establishment of a new Cardiff School of Technologies.

A spokesperson for the university said: “To ensure further improvement the university has reviewed and revised its senior management structure and staffing to afford stronger alignment with the needs of the new plan.

“The restructuring also proposes plans to co-locate sport and health sciences within the Cyncoed campus and to invest in state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the university is at the forefront of education and research in these increasingly inter-linked areas.

“A further, and imminent outcome of the restructuring will also be an announcement of the appointment of a new deputy vice-chancellor following recent interviews.”

The spokesperson added that the university’s rise in the recent Complete University Guide rankings – the third increase in as many years – was “testament to the good work being carried out by staff and students.”

The university declined to confirm the number of senior jobs losses and the identity of those affected by the restructuring process.
