NEWBRIDGE made it two wins from two in Division One of the Thomas Carroll South East Wales Cricket League with a 25-run home victory over newly-promoted Malpas.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Newbridge posted 225-6 off their allotted 50 overs, with number three Ryan Watkins the leading run scorer with 68 off 74 balls, a knock which also included seven fours and two maximums.

Skipper James Morgan also smacked two sixes in his quickfire 39 while opener Alex Horton chipped in with 38 and there was also a useful 32 from Will Davey.

Christian Rose took 3-45 for Malpas, while David Griffiths bagged 2-18.

Visitors Malpas were bowled out for 200 in reply and it’s now two defeats out of two for them.

A number of batsman got starts, with Nicolas Jones (33) the best of those, while Scott Greaves (4-43) and Gavin Jones (3-24) did most of the damage with the ball for Newbridge.

Sudbrook and Croesyceiliog are two other sides who have won both of their opening games.

Sudbrook were winners 81 runs at home against Usk – who were all out attempting to chase down 186 for victory – while Croesyceiliog were three-wicket winners at Pentyrch – who last season were plying their trade in the South Wales Premier League.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat but, after the top order all failed to get into double figures, which left them languishing at 37-6, Dominic Grossett (34) and Sam Ewen (26) helped steer them to 137
