Neath make it so tough for Newport in a winning draw

SOUTH Wales Premier League champions Newport found visitors Neath tough opposition after conceding a winning draw.

Neath batted first and made 170-7 from their 50 overs with Kieran Bull hitting 50 and Dean Cosker taking 3-25.

Newport struggled in reply, reaching 129-9 at the close, Mark Wallace top scoring with 23 while Sean Griffiths was the pick of the Neath bowlers with 3-18.

Port Talbot Town stormed to victory over visitors Ammanford by 99 runs.

Batting first Port Talbot posted a total of 263, opener Owen Morgan top scoring with 39 with Richard Edwards making 32.

Mathew Fisher was the best of the Ammanford bowlers with 3-46, while Alun Evans took 3-52.

Despite a superb 80 from Jack Murphy Ammanford were bowled out for 164, Evans adding 44 as Daniel Rowe (6-10) tore through the batting order.

Pontarddul­ais won by five wickets at Ynysygerwn after bowling out the home side for 165, Richard Grant making 50 and Chris Curtis 40 with Dan Lewis-Williams (4-9) doing most of the damage.

Pontarddul­ais made 166-5 in response, Jack Butler top scoring with 52 and Shaun Harris 38 with Adam Sylvester and Richard Grant taking two wickets apiece.

Cardiff had to settle for a winning draw at home against Mumbles after batting first and making a total of 257-5 with opener Alex Milton making a superb 139, including 18 boundaries.

Yvan Grant added 68 with Daniel Roberts taking 4-40.

Mumbles made 200-9 in reply, Scott De Weymarn making 72 and Connor Stone 50.

Bridgend Town had to settle for a winning draw at Penarth after batting first and making 211-7, Jeremy Lawlor hitting 77 and Tom Baker 68 with Ali Bukkhari taking an impressive 6-28.

Penarth held out on 105-9 in reply, Tom Sidford top scoring with 37.

In Division Two, Ynystawe secured a two wicket victory over visitors Miskin Manor in a low scoring game.

Miskin batted first and were sent back for just 86 with Tom Morgan taking 4-19 and Tom Davies 3-8.

Despite 4-30 from Aled Jones, Ynystawe made 88-8 in reply with Tom Blake making 31 and Lewis Hicks 24.

Swansea travelled to Clydach and came away with a thumping 102 run victory.

Swansea batted first and made 253-7 with Jake Peake scoring a superb unbeaten 84 and Dan Pickard 48.

Clydach were then bowled out for 151 in just over 33 overs, Jack Todd top scoring with 35 as Uzair Rahman took 4-39.
