Jail for man ‘with alcohol issue’ who violently attacked partners

-

A MAN kicked his girlfriend in the head in a fit of drunken, jealous violence – while on a suspended sentence for attacking a previous partner with a knife.

A judge told Martin Rees “women are not your property”.

Swansea Crown Court heard that Rees, 46, went with his partner to Swansea on February 10/11 .

Carina Hughes, prosecuting, said that while they watched a Six Nations game in a pub Rees was unhappy that his partner’s rugby shirt – with her name on the back – would attract attention from men. Later that night, in a bar, he raised concerns about the frequency of her visits to the toilet.

Walking back to their hotel, Rees “lost his temper” and shouted obscenities, pushed her to the ground and kicked her.

Miss Hughes said passers-by called the police. Rees’ victim suffered facial bruising and swelling.

Rees, of Poplar Road, Rhydyfelin, had previously admitted the ABH assault, the court heard

He also had a suspended sentence imposed in Cardiff Crown Court in 2015 for wounding a partner with a knife.

Andrew Evans, for Rees, said Rees realised he had an alcohol issue, and had been abstinent since the attack.

The judge sentenced Rees to 15 months in prison, which included activating six months of the suspended sentence.
