There’s no holding Holden in Bridge win

LEADERS Menai Bridge remain unbeaten in the North Wales League but were made to work hard for their 17-run victory over Hawarden Park at Moor Lane.

Choosing to bat, The Bridge finished on 238-8 off their allocation of 50 overs with capt Dion Holden outstandin­g, peppering the boundary with 15 fours in his total of 94, Rob Jones chipped in an unbeaten 44 and Arwel Thomas 39. Hawarden’s Campbell Marr returned figures of 5-66.

In response Hawarden struggled against The Bridge’s bowling attack and at one stage were 74-7.

A spirited stand between lower order batsmen Ian Martin (50) and Campbell Marr (66) who was undefeated boosted Hawarden’s innings but some solid bowling from Gerallt Roberts 5-40 brought their innings to a close at 221.

Meanwhile, current Premiershi­p champions Llandudno overcame Chirk with a single wicket win. Put into bat Chirk finished on 116, Danny Evans taking 4-12 and Matthew Jones 3-37.

In reply Llandudno struggled to a winning score of 118 for the loss of nine wickets, Daniel Evans top scoring with 55.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, in rain affected matches, St Asaph overcame Gresford by three wkts, Jason Foulkes shining for Gresford with bat (64) and ball 3-26.

In a tight finish Bangor beat Connah’s Quay by eight runs, Dave Winter posting an unbeaten 75 for the winning side.

Finally, Llanrwst, are still looking for their first win of the season after being beaten by Brymbo by 21 runs in another rain affected match.
