Will power the key as Davey and Co

-

NEWBRIDGE kept their place at the top of Division One in the Thomas Carroll South East Wales Cricket League as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on Gwent rivals Croesyceiliog.

Alex Barry looked to have given Croesy an unassailable lead, after they were put in to bad, as he struck a stunning 116 with Calum Miles adding 36 before they were bowled out for 184, largely thanks to four wickets from Lewis Parfitt.

But Will Davey (53) hit a half century while Alex Horton (34) and Parfitt (30) also chipped in as Newbridge scored 186-5 to win by five wickets.

Brecon, who were promoted as Division Two winners last year, moved into second place as they kept up their winning run with a sixwicket success over Pentyrch, who were relegated from Division Two of the South Wales Premier League last season.

Todd Wilcox struck 34 as Pentyrch looked to build up a good lead with Lewis Coates adding 22 but Rich Lovering (4-25) and Sam Williams (3-26) helped bowl them out for 111.

Andy McDonald and Tom Jones both finished unbeaten with 29 and 25 respectively, while Greg Webber hit 20 as Brecon finished on 112-4 for a third win in as many games.

But Sudbrook also maintained their 100 per cent record as they beat Pontypridd by 41 runs.

Ponty won the toss and put Sudbrook in to bat with Ross Lewis hitting 48 as they were bowled out for 115 after 40.1 overs, with Thomas Vaal boasting 4-16.
