Capital gains for Cardiff as Neath are skittled for just 41

CARDIFF moved into second place in Division One of the South Wales Premier Cricket League after crushing hapless Neath by seven wickets.

Neath batted first and were skittled out for just 41. Steffan Roberts (10) was the only Neath batsman to reach double figures as they were sent back in just over 22 overs.

Cardiff then had little trouble knocking off the runs, coasting to 45-3 in under 16 overs, with opener Alex Milton top scoring with an unbeaten 13. Neil Brand did his best for Neath, taking all three wickets to fall at a cost of 10 runs.

Port Talbot travelled to leaders Bridgend Town and held out after Bridgend batted first and scored a total of 202-8, with opener Sam Wood smashing a fine 81, Alex Jones 33 and Nick Davies an undefeated 27. Daniel Rowe was the pick of the Port Talbot bowlers with a creditable 4-41.

Port Talbot opener Anthony Thomas then scored a brilliant 87 to get the visitors reply off to a good start but then wickets tumbled against the accurate bowing of Nick Davies (4-21) as the visitors held out at the close on 173-9, Mark Cox adding 26.

Mumbles beat visitors Ynysygerwn by 7 wickets after bowling out the visitors for just 112 in under 38 overs.

Gareth Grant top scored for Ynysygerwn with 51 while opener Ryan Sylvester made 23 with Ryan Aingworth doing the damage with a magnificen­t 6-26.

A superb unbeaten 66 from opener Max Phillips and 27 not out from Conor Stone guided Mumbles to 114-3 and the winning post with Richard Grant picking up 2-26.

Pontarddul­ais conceded a winning draw to visitors Penarth who batted first and made a total of 1749, Nick Morgan making a fine 73 and Scott Matthews 41, while Carl Roberts took 3-26 and Dafydd Davies 3-45.

Pontarddul­ais then made 156-8 in reply, Roberts making 50 and Thomas Carey an unbeaten 27 with Ali Bukkhari taking 3-23.

The scheduled game between Ammanford and Newport was called off due to a waterlogge­d pitch.

In Division Two, Newport Fugitives remain on top with Panteg second.

Ynystawe crashed to a 10-wicket defeat at St Fagans after batting first and being bowled out for just 127 in under 34 overs. Tom Davies made 44 with Gareth Weatherall taking 3-20. St Fagans openers Gareth Rees and Chris Lawlor then knocked off the runs, Lawlor making an unbeaten 62 and Rees an undefeated 53.
