Revised rail timetable as extra trains to run through the night

-

ADDITIONAL rail services will be put in place to and from Cardiff city centre for the Champions League final – with extra trains through the night from 11pm until 4.45am.

Arriva Trains Wales is gearing up for what could be the busiest day and night it has ever had to face as thousands are expected to descend on the capital for the match between Real Madrid and Juventus.

A revised timetable has been issued for the date of the final on Saturday, June 3. Between 7pm and 11pm, Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) services coming into Cardiff Central will be reduced and there will be no ATW services leaving Cardiff Central. From 11pm, the only services running from Cardiff Central will be to Bristol, London, the Midlands, Newport, the Marches and West Wales.

The additional ATW services from Cardiff Central will see: services to Newport running every 15 minutes from 11pm until 4.45am; services to Hereford running every 30 minutes from 11.05pm until 3.04am; services to Gloucester running every 30 minutes from 11.10pm until 3.40am; and services to Swansea running about every 20 minutes from 11pm until 4.40am.

People travelling from London or Bristol to Cardiff on Great Western Railway services must book a specific train to travel for inward and outward journeys. On a return journey, travellers need to book an hourly time slot and arrive 30 minutes before departure.

Travellers for Cardiff and Valleys services are advised to use Cardiff Queen Street station on the day and after the final whistle.

After 7pm, Cardiff and Valleys services will only be available to and from Cardiff Queen Street.

The additional ATW services from Queen Street station from 11pm will see: services to Pontypridd run every 30 minutes from 11.15pm until 1.15pm; services to Caerphilly running every 30 minutes from 11pm until 1am; services to Radyr running every 30 minutes from 11.10pm until 1.10am; and services to Barry Island running every 30 minutes from 11.15pm until 1.15am.
