May’s decisions shake bedrock of society
DR Rowan Williams’ warning about the threat to our cohesive society posed by this unnecessary General Election is starkly borne out by Theresa May’s decision to put troops on our streets on the pretext that our civilian police force that she badly depleted as Home Secretary cannot cope with a raised terror threat in the aftermath of the atrocity in Manchester
This decision not only smacks of a military coup but also throws Mancunians’ determination not to allow this horror to divide them back in their faces.
This unnecessary election, which was clearly called to wipe out the opposition, should be postponed and parliament recalled before any decision is taken to put law and order in the hands of the army.
Clearly Theresa May’s ambition to remain Prime Minister despite her total lack of political and fiscal acumen that was so evident in her manifesto fiasco knows no bounds, even to the extent that she is prepared to hand extremists the victory over our democracy they so desperately crave.
