What it’s all about season with Swans
so well for the Under-23 side and it makes it a real honour to be recognised. Overall I am pretty happy with how the season went, but you have got to keep developing.
“The level of performance this season will not be enough next season, you always have to strive to improve and get better. If you stand still you get found out, and I know there are plenty of things I still need to work on, I am nowhere near being the finished article yet.
“I know myself I made mistakes, the manager and the coaches speak to me regularly about where they feel I can get better and it’s down to me to take that advice on board and put in the hard work.”
And Mawson insists Swansea have laid down a benchmark under Clement they must not dip below next season; and he does not want the word ‘relegation’ to be part of the club’s vocabulary.
“We are delighted to have got ourselves safe and made sure we are still a Premier League club, but there is also a lot of frustration,” admitted the former Wycombe man.
“When you look at the number of points we collected in the second half of the season under Paul Clement – even with us having a difficult run – we should have been doing better than we were.
“The challenge now is to make sure the level of performance and results we have produced does not drop next season.
“No-one wants to go through a season like this one again, we don’t want to be talking about relegation next season.”
If Mawson has anything to do with it, you sense Swansea might have better things to look forward to during the 2017-18 campaign.
