Elect a woman and let’s get the job done
YET again an election looms and none of the political leaflets through my letterbox or campaigners at my door are Tory. Are they so confident that they don’t see the need to further waste vital funds? Or is it that they are so plagued by U-turns that by distribution time the leaflets are no longer valid?
With Monday’s Paxman interview seen as damaging for Mrs May and Wednesday’s no-show, the Conservatives could sweeten the situation by changing their party name to a more honest Eton Mess. Bearing in mind the recent Etonians (and with tongue in cheek) I am inclined to say, “Come on girls, let’s do what we’re good at and tidy up the mess the boys have made”.
Alan Cairns continues to be a good Tory, he smiles for the camera and is a natural at towing the party line, but to quote a more successful, albeit unpopular Tory, “If you want something said ask a man, if you want something done ask a woman” (Mrs Thatcher).
Unfortunately therein lies the problem, for if I could vote directly for Theresa May I probably would. I don’t buy the line that a vote for the Conservatives is a vote for her.
For me, the spin on policies and proposals is blinding and the only belief I am now sure of is that regardless of party, male political dominance must end and more women must be elected so as to get done whatever it is that needs doing. Mrs L Cummins Barry
