Lee-Lo on a high after collecting top Blues accolade

-

REY Lee-Lo claimed the Peter Thomas Player of the Season Award at the 2016/17 Cardiff Blues’ end of season Awards evening.

The centre, who is currently on international duty with the Samoan national side, saw off competition from runners-up Kristian Dacey, Lloyd Williams and Josh Navidi to claim the night’s main award.

It’s been an impressive season for Lee-Lo, who received the award via a video message, having struck up a formidable partnership with Willis Halaholo in the centre and causing problems for opposition defences with his ball-carrying and offloading abilities.

The evening was held at the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre in the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, and hosted by TV presenter, and Cardiff Blues fan, Gethin Jones.

Dacey picked up two awards on the night, after being voted Player of the Season by the Cardiff Blues fans and his fellow team-mates, having rackedup six tries in 22 appearances.

Elsewhere, promising talents Rhun Williams and Ben Jones were named Discovery of the Season and Academy Player of the Season, while Blaine Scully’s superman finish against Scarlets came out on top of the public vote for the Try of the Season. A panel consisting of Gareth Edwards, Gethin Jenkins, Tom Shanklin, Martyn Williams and WalesOnline rugby journalist Simon Thomas chose Alex Cuthbert’s performance and standing ovation in the home clash against Benetton Treviso as the Champagne Moment of the Season.

There was also a Special Recognition Award handed to Sam Warburton for his outstanding achievements for Cardiff Blues, Wales and the British & Irish Lions and his ambassadorial qualities both on and off the field.
