Warning as woman attacked on cycle path

-

A WOMAN walking home in daylight was grabbed by a man and dragged toward nearby bushes.

The young woman, who has not been named, was on cycle path 43 between The Ship and the roundabout that leads to the Liberty Stadium, in Swansea.

“I have felt very safe, even on my own,” she said.

“If I have felt that it is too dark I have walked the same route by the road where it is very lit.

“I jokingly texted a friend from work, saying that I thought I was being followed, but I would be fine and would text them again when I was back in my apartment.”

She added: “This unknown male grabbed me and tried to drag me into the nearby bushes. Somehow I managed to scream and he ran.

“I came away with a sore face after he accidently punched me when trying to cover my mouth. I’m extremely shaken but I’m OK.

“I honestly dread to think if it had happened to someone else, that was younger, weaker and more unaware.”

The attack, which happened at 5pm last Monday, led the woman to speak out. She urged people to text their friends if they felt threatened, just in case something happened.

She said: “I just want to send a message out to everyone. This happened at 5pm in broad daylight while people were around.

“Watch your surroundings and always trust your instincts.

“In a way I’m glad this happened to me, because I instinctively knew I had to scream.

“I wasn’t even supposed to be down that path at the time, I should have been home an hour earlier.”

She said South Wales Police had been informed of the incident.
