Chris Martin defends Gallagher concert no-show

-

CHRIS Martin has appeared to defend Noel Gallagher’s no-show at the One Love Manchester concert, saying everyone was aware in advance that he could not make it.

The Coldplay frontman, whose band performed at the gig, joined Liam Gallagher on stage to sing Oasis hit Live Forever at the benefit on Sunday night.

Liam had criticised his brother, with whom he had a long-running feud, for not attending the event at Old Trafford cricket ground, which raised money for the We Love Manchester Emergency Fund, created by Manchester City Council and the British Red Cross.

Martin tweeted: “Thank you @ noelgallagher for giving your blessing and encouragement to play don’t look back in anger and live forever on sunday.

“Everyone knew in advance you couldn’t be there physically, so thank you for being there in spirit and for lending us those incredible songs. love cm (Chris Martin).

“And thank you @liamgallagher, that was awesome x cm + jb (Jonny Buckland).”

Martin also performed Oasis hit Don’t Look Back In Anger with Ariana Grande, who hosted the concert after the bombing at her show at the Manchester Arena.

Liam tweeted on Monday morning: “What an amazing night last night. Pure love, vibrations nobody comes close to Manchester love forever LG x”

He added: “Oh and if anybody’s seen rkid tell him he can come out now as you were x

“Manchester, I’d like to apologise for my brother’s absence last night. Very disappointed. Stay beautiful, stay safe.

“Noel’s out of the f ****** country. Weren’t we all love. Get on a f ****** plane and play your tunes for the kids you sad f***.

“It ain’t about Oasis. It’s about people helping other people and he’s once again shown his true f ****** colours.”

A statement for Noel last week said: “Sadly, Noel will not be at the concert this weekend. He’s been out of the country on a long-standing family trip since before the concert was announced and is unable to attend.

“Needless to say he is very supportive of the event and wishes everyone huge success on the day.”
