Osborne’s actions are outrageous

-

A FEW years ago you kindly published a letter in which I described the then Chancellor, George Osborne, as a dangerous man.

Sadly, my description seems to have been correct because his obsession with imposing draconian financial cuts to essential services such as the prison officers, police officers, freezing the pay of NHS nurses and many others has now proved a catastrophic mistake.

This was done when the increasing threat of terrorism from Islamic extremists was, even then, all too apparent. Yet this pompous, arrogant minister continued with his policy of extreme austerity.

Had such mistakes been made by underpaid and overworked nurses tending badly injured patients, victims of recent terrorist attacks, they would probably be dismissed or severely reprimanded. Similarly, police officers failing to catch these killers in sufficient time would also face a high degree of opprobrium.

Thankfully, the swift, heroic response of our police in the recent London Bridge outrage brought the carnage to an end within eight minutes. And the medical staff in the London hospitals, as also in Manchester, worked tirelessly with a maximum degree of professionalism to bring succour to the badly injured victims of these cowardly attacks.

Mr Osborne, however, appears to have escaped any criticism whatsoever and has, in fact, further enhanced his wealthy lifestyle.

It amazes me that a public servant

whose actions have caused such misery and danger to so many citizens of this country is rewarded handsomely instead of facing the derision that he truly deserves. Jeff Lloyd Porthcawl
