“We were used to the shared and supported living at the refuge. So I started volunteering and completing training courses at PTAWA’s offices when the children went to school.

“I made so many new friends with women that had been through the same experiences as me. I learnt how to sew, willow-weave and organise events. I completed an accredited willow-weaving course to add to my CV.

“I soon felt confident enough to start looking for work and gained employment at a local retail store who were impressed with my volun-
