Kate put on spot by motormouth schoolboy
THE Duchess of Cambridge has been quizzed about her green credentials by a cheeky schoolboy who asked her: “How many cars do you have?”
Kate was put on the spot when she joined a group of children learning to use eco-friendly bathroom products at a marine-themed roadshow in London’s Docklands.
She burst out laughing and exclaimed “Oh my goodness!” during the lesson on the environmental impact of plastics on birds, and said she had a Land Rover.
Kate, who is patron of marine charity the 1851 Trust, was taking part in the organisation’s roadshow at the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre along with primary and secondary school pupils.
The event uses the experiences of Sir Ben Ainslie’s British America’s Cup challenge to inspire pupils into STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths – with practical applications of the challenges the sportsmen faced.
Rafi Ahmed surprised the duchess with the question and said later: “I said, ‘how many cars do you have?’ She said she had a Land Rover.
“She asked me, ‘What’s your favourite car?’ I said, ‘a Lamborghini’. I felt like I was going to be famous.”
The duchess helped pupils take part in a treasure hunt using QR (quick response) codes that triggered science questions, and watched them sail in the docks.
