Police hunt for man after street stabbing in capital
AN 18-YEAR-OLD man was taken to hospital yesterday after being stabbed in broad daylight.
Armed police descended on Meteor Street in Adamsdown, Cardiff, at around 1.10pm on Sunday following reports of a stabbing.
Residents described seeing one man chasing another up the street carrying what looked like a knife with a large blade.
A large part of the street was cordoned off for around four hours while an investigation was carried out.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said an 18-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where his wounds were treated.
He added that it was not being treated as a terrorist incident and said no arrests had been made.
Commenting yesterday afternoon, he said: “Police in Cardiff are investigating an assault which was reported shortly after 1.10pm and which took place on Meteor Street in the Adamsdown area of the city.
“An 18 year-old man from the Gabalfa area was the victim of the assault and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where his injuries were treated.
“Armed police officers were deployed as a precaution and to reassure the public.”
An eyewitness at the scene said: “Two boys ran up Meteor Street. They were aged about 18 or 19.
“One of them was chasing the other and had a long blade which was about 30cm long.
“He ended up on top of the other one outside the chip shop on Meteor Street.
“The man with the blade was pulled off by a woman but went back to kick the other man twice.
“The woman was trying to calm him down. The guy who was stabbed got up and walked about 40 seconds until he realised he was bleeding and lifted his top up and there was blood.”
