Kelly adds voice to charity single for inferno survivors

-

A FRESH batch of chart-toppers arrived at a recording studio in the shadow of Grenfell Tower to add their star quality to a charity single.

Sterephonics frontman Kelly Jones turned up to “sing a few lines”, while X Factor winner Louisa Johnson and Emeli Sande, awarded an MBE this week for services to music, were also among those spotted at Sarm music studios for the project.

Organiser Simon Cowell said he hoped the single, a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s hit Bridge Over Troubled Water, will raise millions to help those caught up in the blaze.

Louisa Johnson said: “The amount of people that have actually agreed to it and gone out of there way to do it is incredible, especially how busy some of these people are. I feel honoured to be a part of it.”

The singer, whose hit with Clean Bandit, Tears, was in the top five last year, said the charity single was “beautiful”.

“Everyone will love it. I’m really hoping that it does well.”

Stereophonics singer Kelly Jones, from Cwmaman, said the situation in Grenfell had sparked memories of a flood in his street when he was a child.

“I got told yesterday,” he said. “It’s very apt for the subject, I know the song, I’ve heard it a million times. All these things that are happening in London at the minute, and Manchester and everywhere, I think the main thing is people are pulling together”.

The likes of Rita Ora, Leona Lewis and Britain’s Got Talent 2017 winner Tokio Myers are among those to have taken part.

Singer and actress Pixie Lott, known for hits including Mama Do and Cry Me Out, said: “It’s so important. It’s an honour to be involved and to come down and record today.

“Anything that we can do to help, we should.”
