Expansion planned at visual effects company

A COMPANY responsibl­e for visual effects for programmes including Sherlock and Doctor Who is planning further expansion after having raised £2m in finance.

Oscar winning Milk VFX, which has a Cardiff operation at the Gloworks building at Port Teigr, will use the new investment from the Business Growth Fund to finance research and developmen­t and investigat­e new overseas opportunit­ies, the Sunday Times reported.

Milk, which is headquarte­red in London, was founded four years ago and has seen revenues rise more than 70% to £7.3m over the past two years. Founder and chief executive Will Cohen said: “We see a great opportunit­y to take the company to the next level.”

Milk launched its Cardiff operation a little over two years ago in March 2015. It has a workforce of around 150 split between its London and Cardiff sites. Clients also include Netflix and Warner Bros.

Milk won an Oscar last year for its work on the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, as well as an Emmy for the Sherlock episode The Abominable Bride and a Bafta Cymru for Doctor Who.

It has also been nominated for two 2017 Baftas, for The Abominable Bride and The Last Dragonslay­er.
