Wales still enjoying the heat from Spain

THE sun continues to shine on Wales with temperatures hitting a record 31°C for the year so far yesterday.

The sunny weather is due to continue until Thursday with highs of 29°C today and 28°C tomorrow.

Emma Sharples, meteorologist at the Met Office, said today is set to be slightly cooler with temperatures rising again tomorrow .

A 2,000-mile wide plume of 45°C hot air from Spain is the reason for the heatwave.

The sweltering weather made for a busy weekend for bars and restaurants and beaches across Wales.

While Barry Island was packed over the weekend, there were problems again with litter.

It was once again left covered in rubbish. Cafe owner Marco Zeraschi posted pictures on social media of the rubbish which had built up over the day, but he claimed that it belonged to one group who had visited the island on Sunday.

He said: “One massive group of about 30 people just had no respect and just didn’t care. They were a law unto themselves.”

Fortunately, the litter was cleaned up pretty quickly by members of the public who wanted to see the island looking at its best.

Marco added: “The people around them did care and they cleaned it up with bin bags because they take pride in their island.”

Hay fever sufferers will be suffering with high pollen levels expected this week. It will stay at that level until Friday, where it will drop to moderate as rain is forecast.

The Met Office warned UV levels are also high in Wales and the rest of the UK.

Unusual levels of UV are being recorded in the UK at the moment, with the strength of the radiation in some spots being as high as that in Cyprus and Gibraltar.

This has prompted warnings that people should take extra care in the sun.
