Bieber fans flock to see their idol play Cardiff
Tens of thousands of fans flocked to the Welsh capital to watch Justin Bieber perform his hits at the Principality Stadium last night.
The Canadian superstar was on his latest stint of the Purpose World Tour in Cardiff, performing some of his latest tunes – as well as some crowd favourites – to his legion of young fans who had packed out the sporting venue.
For days, his most hardcore fans had set up camp outside the stadium in the hope of bagging the best spots to watch their pop prince.
The first Belieber to pitch up was Dutch fan Diana Wielenk. It was the 23-year-old’s 24th time watching the Let Me Love You singer in concert.
The self-proclaimed “mega Bieber fan” said she was super-excited to watch him in action again.
She said: “On the stadium tour I’ve been to Denmark, Italy, France and Switzerland so far. “After this I am going to London.” As the gig got closer, more fans joined the makeshift camp outside.
Among them was 23-year-old Georgia Taylor from Bournemouth, who said: “Justin is amazing. He’s done a lot for me because he’s helped me in different ways. His music helped me to overcome my anxiety, especially the song Be Alright. It helped me to get out of the house when I couldn’t leave. I got the lyrics tattooed on my body last year.”
As yesterday emerged, fans started to pack the area outside the stadium – and take part in a sing-a-long or two.
Sean Crabtree, 24, from Hertfordshire, said: “I’ve been here since 10am and I can’t wait. I’ve heard some people have been camping out for about three days, but I’m a big fan. I have all his CDs and I love him for his music. It just makes me happy. There is so much going on in the world, but Bieber always manages to make me happy.”
Summer Westford, 17, from Bristol, said: “We came here especially for the gig. We got here at about 11am and we’re queuing up for merchandise. The collection is quite new – he released new merchandise for the stadium tour. It sells out really fast but we want to make sure we get some. I’ve been a fan of his for about 10 years – right from the start.”
During his set – which included old favourites such as Baby, Boyfriend and Sorry – Bieber certainly got the young crowd going. There were frantic strobe lighting highs and multiple costume changes. But there were also slow spotlight acoustic solo performances of Cold Water and Love Yourself.
And showing off his multitude of talents – not content with just singing and dancing – the pop prince even played a drum solo in the middle of As Long As You Love Me. At one point the 23-yearold even brought out some incredibly lucky local children to share the Principality Stadium stage with him.
“I’m honoured to be here, you guys are amazing tonight,” he told his army of Beliebers in Cardiff.
It certainly was One Time these fans will never forget.
