Something for everyone to catch onto at festival

-

THOUSANDS of people attended Cardiff’s Welsh language Tafwyl festival in Llandaff Fields on Saturday and yesterday.

Last year, more than 36,500 people attended the free festival and this year’s crowds look set to beat that figure.

The festival was established by Menter Caerdydd in 2006 to celebrate the use of the Welsh language in Cardiff. This year it moved to Llandaff Fields for the first time because of the work that is still being done in Cardiff Castle after the Champions League final.

Bands playing on the main stage on Saturday included Y Niwl, Yws Gwynedd, Geraint Jarman, Alys Williams, Brython Shag, Argrph and Aled Rheon.

But there was far more than just the main stage, with many enjoying the respite from the sunshine in the acoustic tent, or in the educational tents devoted to science, sports, the arts and more.

There was also a huge range of food on offer, from Grazing Shed burgers to pizzas from Ffwrnes, food from Meat and Greek, and innovative creations from Milgi, Ffritter Shack, Bodlon and more.

A spokeswoman for Meter Caerdydd said on Saturday: “Wow, what a turnout! We’ve loved seeing familiar faces at Tafwyl again this year, as well as welcoming lots of new people to Llandaff Fields.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the positive response of the community. Saturday saw a record- breaking number of attendees and we are excited for another sunny day here.”
