RAIN forced a frustrating end to proceedings in the top-of-the-table clash between Cowbridge and leaders Bronwydd in South Wales Cricket Association Division One – with both forced to settle for a draw.

After winning the toss and inserted their hosts, Bronwydd immediately set about getting to work with the ball with Cowbridge all out for 179 bang on 50 overs. Matthew Vaughan was the leading wicket-taker with 4-36.

In reply, Bronwydd were well set on 155-3 – needing 25 off 24 balls for victory – when the rain came down after opener Ruairi Willis’ 66 and an unbeaten 52 from skipper Oliver Furneaux.

But, in the end, the sides split the match points although the three bonus points earned by Bronwydd edged them further clear at the top with the gap now 16 points.

Bottom side Llandysul are finally up and running after they recorded a five-wicket victory at third from bottom Briton Ferry Steel.

After losing the toss hosts Briton Ferry were inserted and, helped by a half century from Luke O’Connor (60), reached 240-8 off their 50 overs.

But, despite being 83-3 at the halfway point of their reply, Llandysul would go on to secure their first victory of the season thanks largely to an unbeaten 71 from Rhydian Harris.

Elsewhere there were victories for Llanelli and Aberdare while Gorseinon drew at Dafen.

In the top-of-the-table clash in Division Two, chasing side Maesteg Celtic earned a winning home draw at home against leaders Morriston.

Nick Poole top scored with 58 for hosts Celtic who reached 227-4 batting first before Morriston ended on 150-6 in reply, Tom Finn their top scorer with 57 while Steve Maddox chipped in with a valuable 42 not out.

Maesteg, in third, were four-wicket winners at Skewen and closed the gap on the top two as a result.

Callum Walters bagged 3-33 as Skewen posted 235-8 off 50 overs with opener Dean Kriescher (95) falling just short of his ton.

Walters then top scored with 48 as the visitors won with 1.2 overs to spare.
