Girl, 10, devastated after charity tins stolen from dad’s shop

-

A 10-YEAR-OLD girl was left “heartbroken” when collection tins she had set up to help buy clothes for homeless people were stolen.

Ady-Jayne Todd, from Rumney in Cardiff, had the idea to set up the collection after always wanting to help others, her dad Steve said.

He said: “She can’t walk through town – she sees homeless people and wants to give them something. She has a good heart.”

Steve, who runs Cash Generator on Cowbridge Road East in Cardiff, put two tins out in his store so customers could donate loose change.

Ady-Jayne wanted to use the money to buy clothes for homeless people in winter – but was devastated when the tins were stolen on June 8.

Steve, 45, said the incident was caught on CCTV and he decided to put a poster in the shop window to make the thief feel guilty, after AdyJayne’s sister came up with the idea.

It reads: “Do you feel proud? Do you feel fulfilled by the fact you stole a charity box that a 10-year-old girl started and put all her savings in out of the kindness of her own heart, to help people who have nothing!

“We’ll be sure to know that your selfishness will not go unnoticed. We have you on CCTV and justice will be served.

“In the meantime may the money you stole buy you some dignity!”

Steve said: “We put it in the window and the general sense from customers is that they are disgusted. We put the sign up to say you know who you are. It was a low blow.”

A police spokeswoman said: “On Monday, June 12, South Wales Police received a report of a charity tin being stolen from a shop on Cowbridge Road East. Inquiries are continuing to identify the person responsible.”
