Where to see everyone’s favourite dragons in Wales

-

THE school holidays are almost here, so now would be a good time to start planning some entertaining activities – and as luck would have it, the Cadw dragons are going on tour again.

After “hatching” from giant eggs under the watchful eyes of parents, Dewi and Dwynwen , the baby dragons will be touring Wales’ most-loved historic sites and you can take the whole family to meet them.

Dylan and Cariad, the little monsters who were revealed in May , are fitted with state-of-the-art animatronic technology and can be seen moving their wings, heads, eyelids and necks - while roaring and making playful sounds.

“The Cadw Dragons have captured the imagination of a nation - inspiring more people than ever before to visit Wales’ historic sites, and I have no doubt that locals and visitors alike will flock to catch a glimpse of the new arrivals this summer,” said Ken Skates, cabinet secretary for economy and infrastructure.

The family dragons, along with their nest, were brought to life by a team of 16 at Cardiff-based propdesign specialist, Wild Creations .

Dewi and Dwynwen, who each weigh two tonnes, and the babies were sculpted and moulded before being cast and built out of fibreglass.

Mr Skates added: “During Visit Wales’ Year of Legends, it’s more important than ever to connect people to Wales’ rich heritage and culture by creating exciting and immersive events and experiences.

“Cadw and Amgueddfa Cymru’s collaborative Dino-Dragon partnership does just that - providing visitors to Wales with a truly unique way to explore both Wales’ geological history and legendary past through fun and engaging events.”

The proud father, Dewi, will be staying put at Caerphilly Castle while his family go off on tour of Wales.
