Gudjohnsen’s the latest ice man at Swans

-

SWANSEA City have swooped to sign one of the most famous names in Iceland after confirming the arrival of Arnor Gudjohnsen, the brother of former Chelsea and Barcelona star Eidur.

The talented teen has penned a three-year deal after impressing on trial and will join Swansea’s Under18 ranks for the coming season.

Gudjohnsen is the half-brother of Eidur – the former Premier League and La Liga title winner and his country’s leading all-time goalscorer – and the son of Arnor Gudjohnsen Snr, himself an Icelandic football legend.

The 16-year-old arrives from Iceland Premier League side Breiðablik, where he featured in the UEFA Youth League, and will be welcomed by Swansea’s current Iceland ace Gylfi Sigurdsson.

And he has insisted he wants to make a name for himself after words of support from his famous footballing family, telling the club’s website: “It’s great to be here. I am looking forward to the challenge and I am excited to get started.

“I want to progress myself on and off the pitch while I am here and develop myself for first-team football. My dad and brother have helped me a lot throughout my career. They have given me good advice over the years.”

He becomes the second iconic name to join the club’s academy in the last week, Swansea having recently also confirmed the arrival of Dutch rookie Kees de Boer from Ajax , although he is no relation to Dutch international brothers Frank and Ronald.
