Ben strikes for Reds asWrexham make it a friendly two from two

BEN Barrett struck in the dying minutes as Wrexham made it two wins from two in their summer preparatio­ns with a 3-1 victory over Cefn Druids.

The National League outfit opened the scoring just shy of the half-hour mark through triallist Djimi Traore.

And the score stayed the same until the 80th minute when James Jennings headed in a second as the Dragons looked set for victory. But Jonny Taylor set up a thrilling finish with a penalty four minutes from time before Barratt’s late effort sealed the victory.

Meanwhile, Prestatyn Town ran riot ahead of their return to the Dafabet Welsh Premier League as they hammered FC Queens Park 9-3.

Zyaac Edwards stole the show with a hat-trick while Jack Higgins and Jack Kenny both struck twice. James Stead also got his name on the scoresheet while an own goal helped the Huws Gray Alliance winners hit nine.

Newtown, who Prestatyn will face in the league next season, also tasted success as they saw off Guilsfield 3-2. WELSH FRIENDLIES ROUND-UP

Jake Cook cancelled out Luke Boundford’s opener but Leon Clowes and Jamie Murphy put Newtown 3-1 up before Asa Hamilton pulled a goal back with a late header.

And Carmarthen Town were 3-1 winners at Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Division Three runners-up STM Sports.

Matthew Thomas and Luke Cummings put the Welsh Premier League side in control with a goal each. Lamin Conteh brought STM back in the game, but Kyle Williams was on hand to seal the victory.

Elsewhere, Rhyl needed a late Tom Hartley free kick to beat City of Liverpool FC 2-1 while Julian Williams claimed a treble as Porthmadog eased to a 4-0 victory over Barmouth.

Flint Town United were well beaten by Everton U23, losing 6-1 with Phil Doran scoring for the Welsh side. And Welsh Premier League side Cardiff Metropolit­an University came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw against Taffs Well.
