Two held on suspicion of terror offence
A MAN and a woman from Cardiff have been arrested on suspicion of distributing terrorist material.
A 34-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from Cardiff have been taken to Queen’s Road police station in Bridgend for questioning.
It came after searches at two addresses, one in Grangetown and one in Cathays.
Officers from North East CTU and Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit (WECTU) made the arrests under Section 2 of the Terrorism Act – Dissemination of Terrorist Publications as part of a joint intelligence-led investigation.
The arrests came after a threeweek operation.
During that time eight people have been arrested for a variety of offences including under the Terrorism Act, Proceeds of Crime Act, Immigration Act, Serious Crime Act and Fraud Act;
A 34-year-old man from Cardiff was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act on July 6, 2017.
A 36-year-old man from Barry was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Fraud Act and the Serious Crime Act on July 7, 2017.
Both men have been released under investigation.
A 29-year-old man from Bridgend was arrested on July 11 on suspicion of offences under the Fraud Act and for immigration offences.
A 37-year-old man from London was arrested on July 11 on suspicion of offences under the Fraud Act and for immigration offences.
A 29-year-old man from Cardiff was arrested on July 11 on suspicion of offences under the Fraud Act and for immigration offences. All three men have been bailed. A 32-year-old man from Cardiff was arrested on July 13 on suspicion of offences under the Fraud Act. He has been released under investigation.
