Saadi’s looking sharp and Kennedy’s in canny

-

CARDIFF City boss Neil Warnock has already admitted the likes of Craig Noone and Declan John may soon leave the club, revealing he’s had “phonecalls” regarding some departures.

But the Bluebirds manager also revealed others are fighting for the future at Cardiff City Stadium.

Idriss Saadi and Matty Kennedy are among those ‘on trial’ in Warnock’s eyes at the moment, with the club’s ongoing pre-season tour offering the chance for both players to shine.

The likes of Junior Hoilett and Lee Tomlin are yet to come back into the first team picture, so Warnock laid down a marker to young duo Saadi and Kennedy, who both spent time out on loan last season with KV Kortrijk and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

“We’ve got a few players to move on and there is an area I would like another player but I’m not overly concerned,” said Warnock about the Bluebirds’ transfer activity for the rest of this window, maintaining his recent stance that outgoings are more likely than incomings.

“We’ve had one or two phonecalls about one or two players, but nothing that really interests me at the moment,” he added. “But I’m sure there will be (more interest).”

So, while it seems inevitable that Noone and John will leave, with Anthony Pilkington another possible departure, what about the players who can still impress Warnock to secure their Cardiff futures? Idriss Saadi Saadi certainly took his chance in the Bluebirds’ win at Tavistock, playing in the pocket behind Kenneth Zohore and scoring two goals as Cardiff ran riot in the first half. After bagging 16 goals in the Jupiler League last season, there is hope Cardiff can follow Zohore from Kortijk to Cardiff and replicate the Dane’s success.

Warnock admitted, however, he sees Saadi as more of a No.10 and challenged the 25-year-old to prove his worth in that position with new signing Lee Tomlin still to enter the fray.

“We’re looking at him and he’s always looking to play a first time ball and get a return,” said Warnock. “He just has to brush up on certain defensive duties when we’ve lost the ball. But he’ll try, he’s willing and we’ll look at him and see what happens at the end of pre-season.
