New man Miller aims to be aT20 thriller as Glam bat for top four

-

NEW Glamorgan signing David Miller is keen to impress fans during his T20 stint with Glamorgan after a whirlwind few days.

The big-hitting left-hander joins as Glamorgan’s second overseas player and after arriving in Cardiff on Saturday was due to start his spell at the club against the Essex Eagles on Sunday before the match was abandoned.

Now Miller will be keen to get up and running at the second attempt as Glamorgan travel to Bristol for tonight’s latest T20 clash, scheduled to start at 5.30pm.

The county need points to stay competitive as they currently lie third, just a point off the South Division summit.

And Glammy will be hoping it proves to be ‘Miller time’, with the prize of a quarter-final spot in the offing if they can stay among the top four.

“I’m really thankful to be here, looking forward to the opportunity and hopefully I can put together some big performances for the team,” said Millar.

“Getting here all happened over three or four days so it happened pretty quickly.

“There were a lot of emails flying around back and forth between my manager and a few guys here, while we put together a deal.”

Miller has played at The SSE SWALEC for South Africa during the Champions Trophy and also for Yorkshire during Finals Day and has fond memories of the ground.

“I already have a few good memories here.

“Finals Day was one of the special moments of my career and I’ve obviously played a couple of internationals games here and it’s got a good atmosphere, nice ground and facilities, so I really enjoy it here.

The South African is also keen to join-up with compatriot Colin Ingram who has lit up the NatWest T20 Blast this season with two hundreds and currently sits top of the six hitting charts.

“He’s been doing exceptionally well in all formats and he’s a seriously good player.

“I played quite a bit with him in the early stage of my career for South Africa and looking forward to playing alongside him again. He hits a few long balls but I think I have him covered.”

The winners from tonight’s have the chance to leapfrog Surrey into first place in the table.

The Welsh county’s visit to Bristol last summer saw them win by six wickets after a fine bowling performance had restricted the home side to 168/6, before Colin Ingram posted an assertive half-century to see Glamorgan to a comprehensive victory.
