Spaniards want to keep star

-

THE president of Spanish club Las Palmas has said they will do all they can to keep hold of Swansea City target Jonathan Viera.

The Swans have been targeting the 27-year-old as a possible replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson should the Iceland international end up completing a big-money move to Everton.

But they are not ready to meet the 30million euro release clause in Viera’s contract, with Las Palmas making it clear they are not of a mind to accept any less for a key player.

Talks over a move began during Swansea’s purchase of midfielder Roque Mesa from the Gran Canaria club, but discussions have reached an impasse although the Premier League outfit are thought to be hopeful a deal could yet be done.

But Las Palmas have publicly stated they plan to offer Viera a new contract, and president Miguel Ángel Ramírez say they would still try and convince him to remain with them, even if a club matched the release clause.

“Neither is Jonathan Viera for sale nor do we want to sell him,” he told Cadena Ser radio station.

“If someone came with the clause money, we would still try to persuade Viera to stay.”

West Brom’s Nacer Chadli is also of interest to head coach Paul Clement but reports Swansea have had a 17million euro bid rejected for Nice’s JeanMichael Seri are believed to be wide of the mark.
