Swans make a move for Valencia striker Negredo

SWANSEA City are in talks with Valencia over a deal to bring Alvaro Negredo to the Liberty Stadium.

The Swans have been keen to strengthen their striking options this summer; they have already signed Tammy Abraham on loan from Chelsea and put a deal in place to re-sign Wilfried Bony.

But Bony was thought to be one of several options being considered by head coach Paul Clement and the Swans hierarchy, and they are keen on a move for Negredo, nicknamed ‘The Beast’ for his uncompromising physical play.

Negredo, 31, made his name during an impressive four-year spell with Sevilla before sealing a £16.4million switch to Manchester City in 2013.

He helped City to a Premier League and League Cup double in his first season, scoring 23 goals in all competitions.

But with the likes of Sergio Aguero ahead of him in the pecking order he was loaned to Valencia for the 201415 campaign and completed a permanent move to the Mestalla the following summer.

He returned to English football with a loan spell at Middlesbrough last season, scoring 10 goals in 38 appearances but it was not enough to prevent the Teesiders being relegated.

Arguably his best performance of the season came against the Swans, where he scored twice and caused all manner of problems as the Welsh club were vanquished 3-0 at The Riverside shortly before Bob Bradley was relieved of his duties.

Negredo has two years remaining on his contract at Valencia, but the Spanish club are thought to be ready to listen to offers for a player deemed surplus to requirements just 12 months ago.
