Rugby fan thrilled to bag Sam’s Lions kit

-

ONE lucky rugby fan was thrilled when he managed to bag some of Sam Warburton’s kit, donated to a charity shop by the Lions captain.

Chris Cahill, 32, saw the rugby star’s tweet about dropping some of his Lions kit at the Tenovus Cancer Care charity shop in Rhiwbina, Cardiff – and asked his sister Michelle who was in the area to head on over.

He said: “I saw the tweet on Thursday and I saw that Sam had said he was going to be in the shop at four, so I quickly messaged my sister, who I thought may be in the area. She managed to get in the queue pretty much at the front, and she was able to jump in and grab some stuff.”

Chris, pictured, said: “She did a little driveby in the car and there was no one there, but by the time she parked, a couple of guys had got in front.

“She was waiting in the queue messaging me because she doesn’t know anything about rugby. So she’s like, ‘What sort of stuff do you want?’ and I’m like, ‘Anything that’s red and got Lions stuff on – go for that’.”

Chris was thrilled with his haul, which included a navy top, trousers and socks.

He said: “She entered the shop and picked up the trousers and then some other guy had the top, but then he didn’t want the top, so Michelle picked up the top and grabbed some socks as well.

“I was chuffed to bits. It was awesome. Sam is a complete legend.”

Chris and his daughter Bethan are massive fans of the Lions, and watched every game during the tour.

He is thrilled to own something that belonged to the Welsh and Lions captain.

He said: “My daughter Bethan has seen all the games, we’re massive rugby fans, watched all the tests, and I’m just really proud to have something from Sam.”

He said: “After the first test, a drawn test was much better than a loss.

“To get any kind of result against New Zealand is pretty good.

“I think the Welsh boys did particularly well, and Sam had an awesome test as well.”

One thing Chris wasn’t so enamoured about was the amount he had to spend on the kit.

He said: “She [Michelle] didn’t tell me how much it cost, though, until she got it to me. It came to about £166 in total.

“It was a bit, but it’s going to charity – that’s how I justify it to my wife, anyway.”
