Monk set to return to Liberty for Tate’s match

-

FORMER Swansea City player and manager Garry Monk is the latest star to be added to the lineup for Alan Tate’s testimonial match against a Manchester United Legends XI at the Liberty Stadium later this summer.

Tate’s side will include a number of Swansea stars past and present for the game at the Liberty on Wednesday, August 9.

And Monk is set to run out for his former club for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign when he appears in Tate’s testimonial game next month.

The Middlesbrough manager is yet to take charge of a competitive match at the Riverside Stadium since being named as Aitor Karanka’s permanent successor on Teesside having left his post with Leeds United following the conclusion of the 2016-17 Championship campaign.

And it has been announced that the Swansea faithful will get to see the man who led them to their highest ever Premier League finish in his first full season as a manager when he runs out at the Liberty for Tate’s match against a team made up of Red Devils’ legends.

Monk - who captained the Swans in four different divisions - last appeared for the club in a 3-1 League Cup defeat to Birmingham at St Andrew’s in September 2013.

He was also part of the club’s League Cup success under Michael Laudrup in 2013.

Brendan Rodgers, Brian Flynn, Roberto Martinez, Ferrie Bodde, Leon Britton, Andy Robinson, Lee Trundle, Angel Rangel, James Thomas, John Williams, Adrian Forbes and Roger Freestone have already signed up.

The United team is being assembled by ex-United and current Stoke midfielder Darren Fletcher who grew up alongside Tate in the Old Trafford youth ranks.

Tickets for Tate’s testimonial are priced at £12 for adults and £6 for children.
