Guest soprano duo to join choir for gig

Côr Meibion De Cymru at St David’s Cathedral

-

THE choral might of one of Wales’ most celebrated male choirs returns to St David’s Cathedral this month for the Valero-sponsored annual summer concert.

Since 1987 Côr Meibion De Cymru – the South Wales Male Choir has gathered its choristers from all over the region – plus a number of exiles from across the Severn – to perform in their national shrine.

This year’s concert on August 12, although actually 31 years on from the first, is very much a celebration of a regular event that has seen the choir raise thousands of pounds for the Cathedral Restoration Fund.

Following a break in 2014, when CMDC was in Flanders taking part in commemorations to mark the sacrifices of the men of the British Expeditionary Force in France and Belgium at the outbreak of the First World War, the series of events have continued to the present day.

Joining the choir will be two of Wales’ rapidly rising stars.

From the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, soprano Sian Dicker will join north Walian soprano Llinos Evans, who will both charm the audience with their duets with the CMDC.

Côr Meibion De Cymru’s programme of music has also been carefully chosen to include favourites from the past 30 years, plus a couple of new pieces.

Under the direction of CMDC’s Elaine Robins, with piano accompaniment of Sian Davies and with Terence GilmoreJames on the Willis organ, the summer concert will take place on Saturday, August 12.

Tickets are available from St Davids Bookshop on 01437 720 480, the Victoria Bookshop, Haverfordwest, on 01437 762 750 or online from Ticketline via www. ticketlineuk.com or by telephone on 029 2023 0130.
