ADETECTIVE constable from South Wales Police has been found not guilty of raping and sexually assaulting women.

Mark Glover, 46, from Penarth, denied seven serious sexual offences and was cleared by a jury following a seven-day trial at Cardiff Crown Court.

Giving evidence during the hearing, he said: “I am not a sexual predator.”

Detective Constable Glover pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault.

The charges related to two complainants and covered the period between summer 2015 and summer 2016.

At the start of the trial, Judge Michael Fitton QC told the jury they would have to decide issues in dispute, such as whether consent was given.

The court heard Detective Constable Glover had worked in the police since 1995 after a previous job at Barclays Bank.

He started his career in the force as a police officer before becoming a detective in 2002.

After a period of living and working in London he returned to Wales to work for South Wales Police.

The defendant, who was based at Bridgend and later Barry police station, specialised in investigating burglary.

He also played and coached both rugby and cricket for local and police teams.

Detective Constable Glover, of Carys Close, denied the allegations from the start.

During his first police interview, he stated that one of the women had consented and he had never done anything against her will.

Questioned by his barrister Jonathan Rees, he said: “Everything we did was consensual from day one.”

In a second police interview, he stated the other woman had fabricated her account and denied ever having any sexual contact with her.

It took the jury of seven men and five women one hour and 55 minutes to return their unanimous verdicts. Judge Fitton thanked them for their work.
