New care home confirmed will create 100 jobs

-

A NEW care home in Abergavenny, creating 100 jobs, has been confirmed following a land sale deal.

Cardiff-based Castleoak Care Developments has acquired a 1.48 acre site, which forms part of the wider Westgate regeneration scheme at Llanfoist, for its 70-bedroom car home.

The undeveloped land has been acquired from Pontypool-based property development firm Johnsey Estates.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

The care home, which has planing consent, will be operated by Dormy Care Communities.

The jobs are a combination of full and part time roles.

Rooms will be equipped with balconies, while the care home itself will also provide a library, cinema and gymnasium.

The total Westgate development is 12 acres, where a new 61-bderoom Premier Inn and Costa Coffee drive thru will open in October.

And last year a McDonalds drive-thru opened at the scheme.

James Crawford, chief executive of Johnsey Estates, said: “We are very pleased to have concluded this latest land sale at Westgate Llanfoist to Castleoak.

“The new care home, together with the Premier Inn hotel, restaurant and Costa Coffee drive thru will deliver much needed investment, jobs and new facilities to Abergavenny at this important location on the A465 Heads of the Valleys trunk road.”

“The remaining plots at Westgate are 0.72 acres and 2.4 acres respectively, although the latter could be sub-divided.

Both plots are suitable for a number of commercial uses, subject to planning, and we are prepared to consider freehold land sales, or design and build packages on a leasehold or freehold basis.”
