Toy and train sale returns to Barry Island this weekend

-

THE excellent preserved Barry Island Station is hosting the annual toy and train sale tomorrow between 10.30am and 3pm.

This is the only event of this type at the venue this year, although collectors may rest assured that arrangements are already in hand for 2018, due to the popularity of the show, which is held within the buildings and on the platforms and under the large canopy of this superb former Barry Railway Co station.

Following this show, the sister event, the Cardiff toy and train sale, will be taking place at Penarth Leisure Centre on a three-monthly basis (the next show is on Saturday, October 7) with another show at Barry Leisure Centre on Sunday, September 24.

Barry Island Station has proved a big hit with the public in recent years and the unique atmosphere helps to create a very special day.

The station boasts an excellent in-house cafe and the national network station (ATW) is on the same site so visitors can travel by rail from a wide area.

The Barry Tourist Railway will also be operating its own trains during the show including, hopefully, a steam-hauled service.

Organiser Chris Dyer said: “Barry Island attracts a great range of traders from both sides of the Severn Bridge and a wonderful array of stock is always available from all the big names such as Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox, EFE, Tri-ang, Hornby, Lima, Wrenn, Bachmann etc.

“We are very grateful to John Buxton and the railway for making the facilities, including the excellent cafe, available to us.”
