Swans wait on final bid for star man

-

SWANSEA City are waiting to see whether Everton make one final attempt to land Gylfi Sigurdsson amid claims the Goodison club backed down from an agreed fee for the Liberty star.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman is said to have been left “increasingly frustrated” by Everton’s failure so far to pay-up for Swans star Sigurdsson.

And it is claimed the Dutchman is now fearing he will miss out on his main summer target and that the proposed switch – which has dominated Swansea’s pre-season – could yet be close collapse.

It has been reported – and is believed to be accurate – that both clubs had at one stage reached a tentative agreement about a deal for Sigurdsson.

Swansea had already batted away offers of packages worth £40m as they stood firm on the £50m valuation placed on the Iceland ace’s head.

But they did enter negotiations with Everton to broker a deal after Sigurdsson indicated he was ready to go – with reports that a verbal agreement of a £45m straight cash deal was made.

Swansea were prepared to sign off the deal having held firm over the price for a player who at one stage was being talked about as a £25m target of the Toffees.

The record transfer would have seen Swansea ready to press ahead with deals for new signings.

But it is being claimed that Everton then attempted to renegotiate the terms and it is thought Swansea were left frustrated by the sudden change of terms having looked to have resolved a situation that has had its impact on preparations for the new campaign.

But it is thought Swansea expect Everton to return to the table one more time before the weekend.
