307-bedroom student tower gets green light

-

A NEW 307-bedroom student accommodation tower in the centre of Swansea has been given to go-ahead.

The project from Crosslane Student Developments, on the Kingsway, is scheduled for completion in time for the 2019/20 academic year.

Approval has come from Swansea council’s planning committee. Work on the 14-storey project is expected to start in November.

The Kingsway site is currently a car park and restaurant.

The scheme will comprise 26 selfcontained studio apartments and 281 en-suite cluster flats of between five and nine bedrooms.

Crosslane has appointed Day Architectural as the architects for the development.

Lisa Timberlake, development manager, Crosslane Student Developments, said: “Crosslane is delighted to have secured planning consent for a new student accommodation development in Swansea following extensive engagement with the local planning authority and local community.

“The city centre scheme is close to the main shopping area and the city’s mainline train station, and within very easy reach of both The University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the University of Swansea.

“At 307 beds, the scheme will have a significant impact in easing the supply/ demand fundamentals for purpose-built student accommodation in the city, as the city’s two universities continue to invest heavily in their expansion.”
