Woman admits child neglect
A LLANELLI mother will be sentenced later this month after admitting the neglect of her children in what a court was told was a cry for help.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to four charges when she appeared before town magistrates yesterday.
Prosecutor Sharon Anderson said: “On July 19 at around 7.40pm she had attended a flat with her children and had drunk almost an entire bottle of vodka that evening while there.
“She was taken back to where she lived by a friend and was intoxicated and she had drunk three bottles of wine at a restaurant.”
Mrs Anderson added that police were then called due to concerns over the woman and her children’s wellbeing.
Upon arriving officers administered a breathalyser test, which recorded a high reading of alcohol.
The woman was then arrested and the children taken into foster care.
Mrs Anderson added: “There are no previous convictions and it was clear she needed help and was not coping well. “This was a cry for help.” Defence solicitor Laura Sherwood said: “There is a lot going on with several agencies involved here.”
No further mitigation was given as the case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.
Magistrates set a date for August 31 at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court, when the pre-sentence report will be delivered and the woman sentenced.
She was granted unconditional bail.
