Llorente bidding to face United

FERNANDO Llorente was set to return to training this morning in a bid to prove his fitness in time for Swansea City’s huge clash with Manchester United on Saturday.

The 32-year-old striker, Swansea’s top scorer with 15 goals last season, did not play a minute of action in pre-season and also sat out the 0-0 Premier League opener at Southampton through injury after fracturing his arm in a bicycle accident.

Swans boss Paul Clement will give Llorente every chance to prove his fitness ahead of the game against Jose Mourinho’s aces and is ready to consider pairing him with new signing Tammy Abraham.

“Fernando is going to train on Monday, we will have to introduce him slowly, particularly to the contact stuff,” said Clement. “Then it will be about how quick us and him can get him fit.”

Abraham has led the Swansea front-line in Llorente’s absence and Clement feels they could play together up front due to their differing qualities.

“Yes, I think you could do that,” he said. “Tammy likes to play off the last shoulder and get in behind.

“We’re working on him going the other way a little bit more and getting him more involved in the build-up play.

“But I think that would potentially be a good partnership because they bring different things to the team.

“It would be interesting to see those two come up against two centre-halves, I don’t think many defenders would want to see two men of their size walking on to the field together.”
