Police watchdog referral in murder case

-

NORTH Wales Police has referred itself to the official police watchdog following the murder of a “devoted” mum of two.

The force said it had gone to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) following the murder of 33-year-old Laura Stuart in Denbigh.

Police said the referral was made due to “previous domestic-related incidents”.

An IPCC spokesman said: “We have received a referral from North Wales Police relating to an incident in Denbigh on Saturday and will make a decision on whether IPCC involvement is appropriate.”

Miss Stuart was stabbed to death in Love Lane in the early hours of Saturday. A friend she was with at the time, David Roberts, was also injured in the attack.

Today police said they were still looking for the murder weapon, and asked the public for help, including asking people to check their gardens.

In a statement, Ms Stuart’s family said: “We are devastated at the loss of our beautiful daughter, sister, auntie and above all mother to two wonderful children.”

Jason Cooper, 27, of St Hilary’s Terrace, Denbigh, appeared before Mold Crown Court accused of attempted murder and wounding with intent on Tuesday.

The case was adjourned for a plea hearing on September 19.
