Swansea’s style sold club to me, says Clucas

SWANSEA City signing Sam Clucas has revealed it was his new club’s style that attracted him to make his move.

The midfielder yesterday put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Liberty.

He arrives for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £15million.

After several impressive displays for the Tigers in their relegation battle last season, Clucas attracted plenty of suitors, and despite following an unconventional path to the Premier League, he can’t wait to play there again with Swansea.

“It’s taken me a long time to drive here from Hull, but now I really can’t wait to get started,” said Clucas after signing his deal.

“There were a couple of clubs interested, but I felt Swansea was perfect for me.

“I played quite a few times against Swansea last season when we drew them in the cup and then in the relegation fight together.

“I’ve seen a lot of Swansea and one of the main reasons I decided to come here was because of the way they play football. I think it suits me.

“Once you’ve had a taste for the Premier League you always want to go back. So when the chance came up for me to do that again at Swansea, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.’’

Clucas will wear the number 17 at the Liberty, and could in contention to face Crystal Palace this weekend as Paul Clement looks to record his first win of the league season.

The former Tiger becomes Clement’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrival of Tammy Abraham, Roque Mesa and goalkeeper Erwin Mulder.

Clement was delighted with his new recruit, saying: “I am very pleased to have Sam with us now. He is a player I have come up against before, both in my time at Derby and since I have been here at Swansea.

“He has experience at Premier League level and good experience of English football.”

Last night, the Swans also announced they had sold fullback Stephen Kingsley to Hull for an undisclosed fee.
