£193,000 boost for city science centre

-

ALMOST £200,000 has been invested in one of Cardiff’s best-loved attractions.

Techniquest has had the investment in the past 12 months to “renew and refresh” the popular site. The science centre in Cardiff Bay has spent £193,000 overall on new exhibits and updating their facilities.

Nearly £100,000 has been invested in seven new exhibits including a Lego space capsule, a virtual reality changing room, a film-making exhibition and a playground that can be rearranged by kids.

Chief executive officer Lesley Kirkpatrick said: “This significant investment has allowed Techniquest to introduce some really exciting exhibits which not only take scientific education to the next level, but also provide an engaging, memorable and innovative experience for those wanting a fun day out.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors young and old to the centre over the coming months to see all the new improvements we have introduced for themselves.”

Upgrades have also been made to the educational charity’s digital offering, including improvements to their website, online booking system and Wi-Fi.

As part of the investment and to increase its revenue, Techniquest launched new conference and event facilities in May following a refurbishment.

Lesley said: “Despite going for 30 years, many people are still unaware that we’re a charity.

“Over the last few months, we’ve been on a journey and long-term programme of change and refocus to ensure Techniquest has a sustainable future.”
