MP and Matt Lucas in Twitter row
A WELSH MP has become embroiled in a Twitter spat with Little Britain star Matt Lucas.
Conservative MP David Davies was responding to an article about how police in London should prioritise face-to-face visits.
London Metropolitan deputy commissioner Craig Mackey had sparked controversy earlier in the week by suggesting victims who did not speak English as their first language or elderly victims would be prioritised in response to cuts.
Mr Davies, chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee, tweeted on Friday in response: “Appalling & discriminatory suggestion. Police could save fortune by not paying 4 interpreters 4 non English speakers.”
Some minutes later Lucas said: “We don’t need a translator to tell us how fascistic this sounds.”
Davies replied: “Highlighting cost of interpreters 4 ppl who dont speak English isnt Fascism. U may b funny but u arnt much of a historian.”
Lucas then hit back: “And you can’t f ****** spell, you tool.”
The spat continued when Davies said “Lefty luvvie comedian without a clue about the real world”, prompting Lucas to call him a “racist MP”.
Davies replied “you havnt got a clue you moron” adding “you happily ‘blacked up’ for a sketch then accuse others of ‘racism.’ 1 rule 4 lefty comedians & 1 rule 4 everyone else eh? Moron”.
Davies appeared to be referring to some of Lucas’ characters from the BBC show Come Fly With Me, which saw the comedian play a Muslim airport worker and a West Indian shop assistant.
Lucas replied: “Context and intent wilfully ignored. Well done. Do you represent all of your constituents or just the fluent Englishspeaking ones?”
The exchange then stopped.
