TWO people have been charged in connection with the death of an Olympic champion’s mother.

Carol Boardman, the mother of cycling legend Chris Boardman, was killed on the Mold Road roundabout in Connah’s Quay on July 16 last year after being struck by a Mitsubishi L200 pick-up while on her bike.

The 75-year-old retired cook, of Clydesdale Road in Hoylake, Wirral, was rushed to the Countess of Chester Hospital but died as a result of multiple injuries during the early hours of the following day.

North Wales Police said two people are due to appear in court charged in connection with her death.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice, while a 31-year-old woman has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

The pair, who are local to the Connah’s Quay area, have been summonsed to appear before Mold Magistrates on Monday, September 25.

Following her death, Mr Boardman, who won an individual pursuit gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, paid tribute to his mother.

He said: “A racing cyclist of some standing in her day, she gave up competitive riding when Lisa and I came along but she never lost her love of competing.”

Chris said his mum’s “generosity of spirit inspired everyone she met”.
